Summary Another trip to Las Vegas. Pictures from the helicopter ride over the canyon didn’t turn out, but the strip never fails to produce something interesting. THe Bellagio, Forum Shops, and the Mirage. Gallery
Summary This is the 4th (and final) part of the Cairo, Nile Cruise series. The last segment of our trip. We added this last minute and it turned out quite nicely. If we had planned ahead, we could’ve gotten a flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel. As it was, we ended up getting up horribly early and driving through the sahara. Sunrise over the Sahara The only good part about getting up around 4am was that about half-way there, we got to see the sun come up over the Sahara Desert.
Summary This is the 3rd part of the Cairo, Nile Cruise series. After Luxor and Kom Ombo we journied up river to Aswan. Aswan is home to 2 hydro-electric dams, a botanical garden (out in the river), a Nubian Village, and the Philae Temple. Hydro-Electric Dams First up was visiting both the Aswan Dam and the High Dam. Both generate hydro-electric power for Egypt. The Aswan Dam is The High Dam is what holds back the majority of the water, creating Lake Nasser.
Summary This is the 2nd part of the Cairo, Nile Cruise series. After Cairo, we took a quick flight to Luxor (previously called Thebes). This is where we would find our boat and from here on, our transportation was a cruise along the Nile. In Luxor, we visited the Valley of the Kings, and 3 temples: Karnak, Luxor, and Queen Hatchepsut’s. Karnak Temple First, we visited Karnak Temple. Here, they found a partially built wall in the same fashion as the pyramids, and they believe it has the evidence that was previously missing for how the pyramids were build.
Summary My first trip to Africa! This is going to be a 4 part post, with a post covering each of the major stops we made as we traveled up the Nile from Cairo to Abu Simbel. There are several locations we spent time in the Cairo area including Giza, Memphis, Saqqara, and Old Cairo/Coptic Cairo (this is the order that the pictures will be shown in). Giza and Saqqara We started the first day at Giza, and in fact, upon arrival, found we could go into the great pyramids and see the burial chamber.
